Why is real-time 3D rendering important?

When creating 2D graphics, designers view each step of the creative process as it happens, allowing them to see the impact of a change or edit in real-time. This enables them to adjust as they create and when they're done, they're immediately able to see the final result of their work. In 3D design though, 3D models need to be converted into 2D images through a time-consuming and resource-hungry '3D render' process.
